We come to sense the silence, the forest, the scent, the mountains, and the view. To feel the rhythm of the landscape and to find peace—not to discover something specific, but to simply experience being. Lysefjorden is a unique place, renowned for its ability to evoke these deeply human emotions and experiences.

Lysefjorden is a window into the Earth’s ongoing tectonic movements, with fault lines and layers of rock revealing past shifts in the Earth’s crust. These tectonic forces, along with the human vulnerability and need for shelter and social connection, form the foundation for the design of the new visitor center.

The new visitor center lies beneath two roof planes that rise from the natural contours of the terrain and ascend toward the center, where the view is most striking. At the main entrance on the building’s northern side, the roof planes create a shift, clearly signaling a welcoming gesture—a compelling and spectacular transition into the building’s interior.To the south, overlooking Lysefjorden, lies the building’s “peak.” The ceiling height and the open glass façade frame the view and offer visitors a unique experience of sitting sheltered under the expansive roof, closely connected to the powerful surroundings.
