Description
Architecture carries the legacy of the city and shapes the framework for the life we choose to live. In Svedala, the old school and the existing municipal building are such stories – buildings that over time have been a natural part of the town’s everyday life. With the extension of Svedala’s municipal building, this history is carried forward and woven together with a new contemporary interpretation of public life, work, and community.
The project takes its starting point in what already exists. The original building is given a renewed and clear role as the main entrance and public face of the municipal building. This is where the resident meets the municipality – in a familiar architecture that carries the identity and collective memory of the place. By reactivating the existing structure, continuity and recognition are created, while new spatial connections are opened up.
